The Union would not exist without the University, the Union was set up to represent students at the University and the Union's
official aims and mission statement reflect this. The Union's Charitale status is derived from the University's Charitable status.
The Union is free to criticise University Policy and to set its own policy.
The Union does not however operate without any interference from the University for example:
The University and the Union are currently in discussions about the Union becoming a 'devolved department' of the University it is not all clear what this would mean.
